My paintings are built on conversations between mind and body. My task is to translate these conversations into visually analogous forms, relying on format, materials and a mix of painting languages to carry the narrative. The resulting piece becomes an illustration of an idea, a pictogram of reflected experience. I am intrigued by the ways that metaphors emerge from the juxtaposition of substance, symbol and image. Sometimes it is the subtle tension between representation and materiality alone that captivates me. Fundamentally, what I am after lies in the marriage of sensation and intellect.
